How Animal SOS Sri Lanka Was Founded A Compassionate Legacy
Discover the Inspiring Story Behind Animal SOS Sri Lanka’s Mission to Rescue Street Animals in Sri Lanka
At Animal SOS Sri Lanka, we are driven by compassion and a commitment to saving vulnerable street animals. The charity was founded by Kim Cooling, a dedicated social worker who had been rescuing animals long before the official formation of Animal SOS Sri Lanka as a recognised organisation. Kim’s deep empathy for animals in need led her to take action and create lasting change for Sri Lanka's street animals.
The Rescue That Changed Everything
In 1998, while on holiday in Thailand, Kim rescued a dog named Rama who was at risk of being poisoned. The profound bond Kim formed with Rama sparked a turning point in her life, leading her to realise her true calling - helping street animals. Inspired by this selfless act of kindness, Kim began working towards helping street animals in Sri Lanka, where the conditions for these animals were tragically poor and neglected.
Rama’s Legacy Lives On in Our Rescue Work
Rama’s story continues to inspire the work of Animal SOS Sri Lanka. The love, compassion, and hope she brought into Kim's life ignited a legacy that endures in every rescued dog and cat that finds sanctuary through the charity’s efforts. To date, Animal SOS Sri Lanka has saved thousands of lives, providing medical care, rehabilitation, and shelter for injured and ill street animals across Sri Lanka. Rama's legacy is alive in every story of hope, healing, and transformation.
